About the Role

Tissue Culture Lab Director is responsible for overseeing all lab activities in a tissue culture production environment, including, but not limited to, processing plant materials, preparing media, employing aseptic technique, capturing data, sanitizing tools and equipment, and maintaining lab cleanliness. They will oversee the selection, development, and production of superior cannabis species through cloning procedures and communicate and schedule with CEO. The Tissue Culture Lab Director will lead and manage a team of technicians.


· Establish, Expand, Mange a Tissue Culture Lab in Durango, Colorado

· Development of protocols for the initiation, maintenance, and multiplication of clones

· Develop/ Maintain database of all initiated cultures- running and overseeing trials

· Manage laboratory activities including mentoring and training staff, chemical inventory, billing, order/track supplies, equipment maintenance

· Communicate with colleagues and breeders on various projects and information

· Track and prepare shipping of plant material

· Inspect the plants regularly and identify horticultural tasks that need to be performed

· Develop and implement SOPs with county, state, and federal regulations in regards to the cultivation of cannabis and workers’ safety

· Track soil and plant health through tissue and soil tests will work closely with vendors and their agronomists on long term soil and substrate viability plans

· Establish and execute 20+ acres substrate grow operation. Plan and budget for the initial build-out and staffing requirements

· Ensures that established safety guidelines are followed and comply with O.S.H.A.

· Planning and Organizing- Engages in short and long-term planning, sets priorities to optimize time usage, adheres to schedules and plans

· Adhere and foster an operational environment meeting standards set forth by cannabis regulators such as, but not limited to, the Colorado Department of Revenue – MED Division


  • BS in Agronomy, Genetics, Plant Propagation, Organic Chemistry, or similar degrees based on applicability
  • 2 years’ experience in cannabis tissue culture (preferred)
  • 6-7 years’ experience in plant science, plant physiology, agriculture
  • Proficiency in technology software, desktop electronics, MS Office, Outlook, Excel
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, innovative, and able to work independently or among teams
  • Excellent written observational skills with objective analytical description
  • Basic understanding of lab equipment, glassware, and lab safety
  • Must be proficient in sterile technique
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detailed oriented and extremely organized
  • Proficient at multi- tasking in a fast-paced environment
  • Positive team player who works well with others
